I'm back. After a much needed year hiatus, Im coming back. This time only different. A new blog name and a new outlook. My refurbished blog will be a joy journal. Hopefully daily, I will post something that brings me joy in efforts to maintain a positive attitude about life. I will make a daily habit of finding one thing about my day that brought me joy. Well I only have one more day left with Little and Littlest before I am living in the "mountains" permanently. As I told you before, Hubs and I have moved. I have been driving back to Chapel Hill to work 3 days a week. I can't believe this is it. I am going to miss Little One so much. Today I was watching her splash in the pool and just yesterday I was teaching her to walk. It's crazy really. She has matured so much. I started watching her when she was 2 months old and on her next b-day she'll be three! I feel so blessed to have spent so much time with her and be apart of her life. She has become my favorite little buddy and she will always hold a special place in my heart. She has been the best shopping partner ever and I know and trust I have instilled good fashion sense to her. Just today my mom asked where she got her swimsuit to which she replied..."Oh Nordstrom". She has brought so much joy to my life. Her laugh can bring a smile to my face even on the worst days. Tea parties and dress up, hide and seek and storytime, there is no doubt I am really going to miss all the fun we have! I know she is going to grow up and be a well rounded individual with such a passion for life. I could only pray that one day, Hub's and I can have a little girl half as cute as she is. I will be leaving here with a piece of my heart missing.I look forward to many visits and more shared memories with this amazing family as Hub's and I start this new chapter in life.

Calling all remodel-ers

Hello fashionistas! I need your help. As I told you before, I am in the middle of remodeling a 1930s brick home. I know great lighting in a house makes all the difference. I have picked out the outdoor lights, the dining room chandelier and the hall light. I am having issues with the other rooms and I have exhausted my resources. Here are the places I've looked....
-Potterybarn
-Lowes
-Ballard
-Home Depot

Anymore suggestions? I want great lights at a reasonable price. An online discount lighting store would be great but I can't seem to find one. Any thoughts?

Dining Room Decor

I have never had a formal dining room and I am so excited about decorating it!

Weighing in at 215 pounds... this dining room table and chairs is our latest furniture addition.

White walls and navy curtains should complement this arrangement for the main wall in the dining room.

Here's a closer look at the plates for the wall. The silver chargers should be in soon! After searching high and low for an affordable mirror in the right size, I bought a black clearanced one and a can of silver paint. We will see how it turns out.

I can't wait to have our family and friends over for dinner in our new dining space! How do think it will all look?

It's almost time for Hub's Birthday!!! I get so much joy out of doing things for him and especially at his birthday. This year I have planned a cookout. I'm not sure how much longer we will live in the Triangle area and so I wanted to get everyone together before we move.
Going with the traditional bbq theme heres what I have so far:

-red hamburger baskets (you know the old school diner ones)(Target dollar bin)
-traditonal checked liners (World Market)
-ketchup and mustard bottles (dollar bin at Michaels)
-tablecloths (Walmart)

There should be around 20-25 people so I think we are going to attempt a wiffle ball game after chowing down on this...

-hamburgers and hotdogs
-baked beans
-corn on the cob
-potato salad
-indiv peach pies (taken from last months BHG)
-cupcakes(yellow cake and choc icing..his request)

For his birthday I'm going to get him some camping gear. Any suggestions on a good tent?

Happy Wednesday!

Don't have to go to work till12! I could get used to this! Just a heads up...

I went to Target on Monday and in the seasonal section they had a bunch of watermelon themed things. I am not a fan of watermelon stuff however, all the things to go with it are pink and green. They had a cute cute tray, silverware caddy and much more! You could order a monogram decal and slap on any of this stuff and it would look great. If you are looking for outdoor entertaining pieces you should def go and check it out!

Well I got to sleep in a little later this morning and I was confident today was going to be a great day. I took a shower and sat in our bedroom floor to get ready as always. Hubs was brushing his teeth when we both heard a loud popping sound come from behind our nightstand. Then smoke started billowing out. I called 911 and Hubs went to flip the breaker. Of course the fire trucks came and the guys came in and took care of everything.No major damage besides the nice hole in the wall they created and the need for some new electrical work. Apparently we had some bad wiring.All in all not a huge deal but could have been a major catastrophe.
As I sit here and write this I am thankful. Thankful for the reminder that you can loose everything in a matter of seconds. That nightstand sits right up against my pillow. The same place I lay my head at night. So many things could have happened. All day I have been coming up with bad scenarios of us being asleep and so on.God's hand on our lives is so evident at times. His provision is my ultimate lifesaver. I have been saved from flames I could never escape. Today we are thankful not only for the fact our house was spared but most importantly our lives.Fire is used in the Bible to show God's presence; either in mercy or in judgement. I am in awe of God's presence and mercy for us today.

1.Today I put on a swim suit for the first time this year. Not good.
2.I miss my mom often but esp today on Mothers Day. Hope to get home soon to see you!!Love you!!!
3. We are hoping to move at the end of the summer and I can't wait to buy/decorate our first house!
4. I worked Friday and Saturday but Hubs parents were here and it was so nice to get to visit with them.

Major Brownie Points

Well after a 60 hour work week and awful nightmares,you can say last week was rough. This week things have been much better.Yesterday Hubs had the day off and I worked 9-6. When I got home, dinner was on the table, the floors had been vacuumed and mopped, lunches packed for the next day, dishes done, bathrooms cleaned and the list goes on. I could've cried I was so happy. His love and support never ceases to amaze me. If that wasn't enough, we went out for icecream and then Hubs says this..." I know you have been working so hard lately and your rest is very important soooo you might need these" LILLY PJS!!!!! I love them! I will try to find a picture when I get a chance.
I tell you this to remind you to wait. Wait for the guy that God created for you. The one who can determine your needs and meet them without you saying a word. I'm not saying I needed Lilly PJs, I'm saying I needed to be reminded I was loved and valued and today I feel just that.

What a week! So early Monday morning I woke up with a stomach virus and today is the first time I have seen the light of day in 4 days. I am sitting outside writing this post and I am so unbelievably thankful for daylight. The medicine I was taking made me sleep crazy long hours. Hubs would wake me up on his lunch break to force me to drink some sprite and then I would sleep until he got home from work. I was supposed to start a new job on Monday and of course that hasn't happened. It's so embarrassing to call in on your very first day of work! Hopefully I can start tomorrow. As for today, I hope I can regain some strength and disinfect our house. I have no idea what Hubs has even been eating for dinner so I need to get to the grocery store.I hope to catch up on your blogs and the week of life I missed out on. Enjoy your Thursday!

Easter fun!

Well the Easter outfits are packed and Hub's Easter basket is overflowing with chocolate and fishing lures (ways to a southern boys heart!). We are headed home for the Easter extravaganza. Easter at my mom's house is always a ton of fun. Every year there are more and more people. This year Mom is expecting around 75! Needless to say I'll be helping her prepare on Saturday.We have a gigantic lunch and then head to the back yard for an Easter egg hunt. There is a hunt for each age group, even my grandparents and there siblings! For my age group the eggs are stuffed with money. You might get a quarter or you might find a twenty you just never know. I get pretty competitive.The older age groups have giftcards and of course the young kids have candy or toys. After the egg hunt, Mom hangs the pinata for the small children. I picked up the cutest egg shaped pinata for her this year!Its pink and green!Its so fun watching the kids swing at the pinata and then finally bust it. They go crazy trying to get as much stuff in there basket as possible.

Then on Sunday we will head to our home church. I love this place so much and can't wait to get back home to go there on a regular basis.I'm sure Jerry will have an amazing Easter message planned. Simply reading the Easter story is enough to be amazing. I hope that this year many are reminded of the cross and the unbelievable love that was spilled out for you and I.

Cake Decorating!

I have always wanted to be better at icing cakes and I would love to one day make my own children's cakes.So I signed up for a cake decorating class. It started last night and it so much fun. I have already learned alot. The class is one night a week for 2 hours. Last night we learned the secret to a smooth cake. Our homework is to bring in an iced and filled cake to decorate next week in class. I can't decide what to fill it with. I always resort to Meyers lemon curd(delish!) but I am open to ideas if you have any great filling ideas or recipes!

I saw those great ladybug cakes on Martha and thought they were adorable!

Just like every Tuesday, Little One and I headed to story time at PBKids. The stories were great and everyone was playing in the store. All of a sudden I hear a mom in the store yelling for her child. She couldn't find her anywhere. Everyone one in there was looking all over the place. People split up outside to look for the little girl and the mom was going into hysterics.I had a huge lump in the back of my throat as ideas raced through my head. Did someone take her? Is she wondering around by herself in the mall?Oh no the fountain? I held Little One and continued to look for the little girl. The mom was saying "she's one and she runs so fast". You could have heard a pin drop in there and everyone looked terrified. Then all of a sudden we heard a little boy say "dare hers is" and pointed to the window display.Somehow, despite the gate, the little girl had gotten into the window display and was playing "tea party" without a care in the world. Sheesh! Talk about a heart attack. I felt so sorry for the mom. Thank God this has never happen to me but I can imagine the emotions it brings.

As expected the weather wasn't great but we still really enjoyed the Carolina Cup.We had to eat our tailgate in the car due to the down pour but the food was great. My favorite thing was Whit's "Kentucky Derby Pie". I have asked for the recipe and will share it as soon as I get it. I saw thousand of Lilly dresses and realized once again how some sororities make a bad name for themselves. It is unfortunate that people can't go to the races without getting completely trashed and acting immature.Anyway....we are hoping yet again for better weather next year. Here are a few pictures from the race!

Deviled Eggs: The group of us that are going are all very southern so we love us some deviled eggs. I am especially excited about these because I picked up a cute egg plate while in NY and I can't wait to use it!

I asked Little One what she did at her art class yesterday and she responded by saying...
"its hard to tell"

How do they come up with this stuff. She turned 2 last week and she is smarter than the average grown human being.I asked her parents if they say this phrase and they said no. I could not stop laughing and because of my laughter this has become her response to any question I ask.

The past couple months I feel like the Lord has been teaching me so much. Certain circumstances have really got the best of Hub's and I. We have allowed it to control our happiness and our outlook on life.Today's sermon was one Hubs and I both needed to hear. We both walked out of church with a weight lifted off of our shoulders. JD (our pastor) talked about how you can allow your "failure" to sabotage your life. Sometimes things in life change abruptly and you are left feeling as if you did something wrong or somehow deserve it. We ask why and can't seem to find the answers. The truth is you can be right in the middle of God's will and He may want to change chapters. In order to start a new chapter He must close doors.God can close doors no man can open but he can also open doors no man can shut. How you handle these closed door determines whether you will be victorious or devastated. Allowing your self to be devastated may mean you miss the next chapter God has for you. The devil thrives on opportunity to make you feel as if your future is doomed but the truth is, the story of the gospel is one that brings hope and purpose. God makes it a habit to bring life out of death. Not only in a spirtual manner but in our everyday life.I don't know what things each of you are going through but I know that regardless the circumstance we must look at God's past faithfulness and believe in His future plan for us. Don't allow your crushed spirit to sabotage you.

Here at the Grindstaff's we are so excited for what God might have in store for us and we are choosing to rise above current circumstances to reveal the next chapter God wants to write on our lives. I hope this will be an encouragement and a reminder to each of you that God is working for your greater good. Those times when you feel so lost, you can rest assured that he knows exactly what He is doing. Your suffering will allow you to experience a greater happiness. Thus the "divine slingshot".Your low will allow you to experience an all time high otherwise not attainable. I think this analogy is so funny but brings so much hope for our lives. This video is just for added visual effect and a good laugh.

Proverbs 13:12 "Hope deferred makes the heart sick but a longing fulfilled is the tree of life."

You can read in 1Kings 17:1-8 to see the biblical example of Joseph. Even in his obedience the "brook" dried up. You will understand all this more after reading the passage.

Gorgeous Weather

74 degrees here today and I am loving the beautiful weather. I got off work alittle early today and this warm weather makes me want to go outside. The problem is Im piled up on the couch watchin Full House and can't seem to get get up. Being in NY last week made me realize how much I love my slow pace life style.

Yesterday was beautiful as well. Hubs and I got some things done around the house and then enjoyed our dinner by the fire pit on the deck. We stayed out there and relaxed until almost 10 last night. Looking forward to more warm nights spent out there. I am also hoping the weather stays nice for these upcoming events...

Well Surprise All....this is Hubs which my wife so lovingly refers to. So this is my very first ever post on the "family" blog. Not much to report just laying around the house missing my wife like crazy. I am sure she will be as shocked as all of her followers to see that I have posted on the blog. I can't wait for her return to the Hill. I know she will fill you all in on her NY adventures so I will leave you in suspense. A week from today I will be flying into NY. Lilly clothes are packed and I am so excited for the celebration I can't stand it. How many of you are going to the after party? I want to know who to look for! Not only is all the Lilly stuff going to be fun but NY in itself will be a blast. I am going to stay all week and my list of things to do keeps getting longer and longer!!Some of you asked what I'll be wearing and I will post that later on this week.Now if only the weather will warm up, the trip will be perfect!

Tonight is our night to host Bible study. I love getting to host because that gives me a reason to entertain. I have a popcorn bar planned. Here are the different combos I'm using...

Pretty in Pink: popcorn, twizzler bites, red hots and pink sugar

Smores: popcorn, graham crackers and cocoa

All American:popcorn, m&ms, pretzels and peanuts

The Big Cheese: popcorn, white cheddar cheese and herb butter

I bought some fun popcorn bags from the party section at Target.

Sad Sad Bedtimes

Sometimes Hubs and I keep Little One at night. All you moms know about the cry at bedtime nights. They absolutely break my heart she cries for at least 10 minutes before finally going to sleep. If you go back in there she is calm while your with her but then it starts all over again when it's time to go to sleep. Sometimes I will go back in there if I feel like she is really worked up and needs help calming down. Right now she is yelling "wanna hold Ahi" (that's what she calls me). I want to go back in there but I know whats best for her is for me to just let her cry it out and then go to sleep. Ohh the pure torture it is for both of us. I wonder how long this will last. When do they want to go to bed or at least go without an absolute fit? This is too sad to endure for much longer.

Visit a restaurant's menu via their website. Pick out something that sounds delish and attempt to re-create it. Great for these economic times and fun to do!Bring your favorite restaurant to your stove!

Tonight:
Open Faced Chicken Sandwich taken from The Weathervane

Thick slice of Italian bread topped with sage aioli(recipe below),grilled chicken, fontina cheese and caramelized mushrooms and onions. Sounds easy to me!

Sage Aioli

¾cup mayonnaise

5 leaves fresh sage, finely chopped

1 clove garlic, minced

1 tsp. freshly squeezed lemon juice

salt and pepper to taste

Place all the ingredients in a bowl, and stir well to combine.

We are having sweet potato fries from the Barefoot Contessa ("Back to Basics") as our side. Love them!!

More on this later but... I am wearing my Lilly Lemon Icing Cake Tierney dress with a yellow cardigan to Martha but I am having such a hard time with shoes. This is my all time fav Lilly dress so I really want to wear it.The problem is I usually wear it with white Jack Rogers and NY in March isn't fitting. Ideas please!

-How To Be Encouraging

As many of you know,Hubs is studying for national boards. This consumes alot of his time and is very mentally draining for him. He is halfway through school and at a stand still with this test.For along time now, I have been trying to think of ways I can encourage him in this but I am lacking in creativity. I wish I could be of some help but he truth is I'm clueless on anything to do with teeth. I try to be very intentional about letting him know how much I admire his dedication but I wish there was more I could do.Any of you shared this place or know ways I could be an encouragement?

Chicken Pot Pie Kinda Night

It's cold here today. A few snow flurries off and on. It feels like a Chicken Pot Pie kinda night.Here's the recipe I'm using. Enjoy!

Ingredients:
8 Tbs. (1 stick) unsalted butter, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
4 cups chicken stock
1/2 tsp. chopped fresh thyme
1 bay leaf
1/2 cup chopped yellow onions
1/2 cup chopped celery
1/2 cup peeled and chopped carrots
1/2 cup chopped white button mushrooms
1/2 cup chopped red-skinned potatoes
1 cup chopped cooked chicken
1/2 cup cooked fresh or frozen peas
Salt and freshly ground pepper, to taste
Four 6-inch squares frozen puff pastry
1 egg, beaten with 1 tsp. water
Directions:
Preheat an oven to 400ºF. In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the flour and cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture smells fragrant and nutty, 1 to 2 minutes. Slowly add the stock, whisking until smooth, and bring to a boil. Add the thyme, bay leaf, onions, celery, carrots and mushrooms and cook until the vegetables are tender, about 5 minutes. Add the potatoes, chicken, peas, salt and pepper and cook until the potatoes are tender, about 5 minutes. Remove from the heat and let cool for 5 minutes. Remove the bay leaf and discard. Divide the filling among 4 ovenproof bowls and place on a baking sheet. Brush the puff pastry squares with the egg mixture. Brush the rims of the bowls with water. Place 1 pastry square on top of each bowl, pressing lightly on the edges. Bake until the pastry is puffed and golden brown, about 20 minutes. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving. Serves 4.

Weekend Getaway Recap!

We are back and we had a great weekend getaway! Hubs was full of surprises! We went home on Friday to celebrate my mother in-laws birthday! We went out to dinner at this cute bed and breakfast and enjoyed time with the fam. We got back to their house and Hubs ask me if I was ready to go to the Lake for the weekend!! We drove to Lake Lure (if you feel like you've heard of this lake its because its where Dirty Dancing was filmed). Upon carrying our stuff into the house I saw a beautiful basket on the table. Hubs had filled the basket with some of my favorite things.

and last but not least a gift certificate with appointment to the spa!
LOVED it all!!
Saturday we got up and cooked a big breakfast then he took me to the spa for a wonderful facial. The rest of the day we just relaxed. We grabbed lunch at a little grill. I had never played shuffleboard but we gave it a try and thought it was so fun. Even more fun that I won! haha That night he gave me two menus to choose from saying "we have reservations at both, you decide" How great is that? I looked over the menus and we went out for a nice dinner. Drove home Sunday and celebrated Hubs brother's fiances birthday! Stopped by to see my family and plan our trip to NY then headed back to the Hill.

I put heart shaped clues all over our town that led him to Golden Corral. The first clue being on his car at work with a sappy cd.Don't judge... my little country boy loves him some Golden Corral fried okra and every meat imaginable. He was in heaven.

What a great Birthday Week!

So at 6 am this morning my husband wakes me up with a caramel latte and sweet potato biscuit in hand and says "Happy Birthday Wifey". How precious is he to get up at the crack of dawn to bring me my favs before heading to work.Once I had eaten and finally sat up in bed he brought me in a box. Knowing how PB stuff is packaged my excitement grew immediately. After a sweet card, I opened the box to find these...

I blogged about wanting these at Christmas so I was super excited to get them. He pulled the January journal out and told me since January was almost over he had journaled for me. I turned the pages and cried like a baby with the sweet words that filled each page. What a great start to my birthday!

On Wednesday, my friend Meredith took me out to lunch at Cheesecake. We had a great time and devoured a piece of snickers cheesecake! Meredith got me a great address book, scarf and cute clutch.

On Tuesday, Little One's family gave me a delicious cake and then yesterday Little One helped me open this...

I can't wait to sit down and read through this!! I'll let you know any great tips I learn!

Last night I met up with Whit for her homemade chicken pot pie. It was delish! She also made me my all time fav Boston Cream Pie. Whit got me this square monogrammed ring! I have one with my old monogram and haven't worn it since I got married. I was so excited to get a new one.Love it!!

So after a conversation with one of my dearest about how I was feeling so chunky, I received this nursery rhyme and picture in the mail. Hubs had I both died laughing. I put it on the side of the refrigerator for occasional laughs. Only today, as I reached into a bowl of m&ms (for the third time), the picture haunted me. Why does cold weather make me want to eat all day?

This is a gross one...

Just let me vent for a second...

Well Hubs had to work early so when the clock went off at 4:45 I couldn't go back to sleep. I laid there until mine went off at 6:40. At 8 oclock, I'm at work and little one wakes up. I go upstairs to get her and the first words out of her little mouth are "oh my doodness, poopy diaper". I get her out of the crib, gave her a big kiss and went to lay her on the changing table. Only then my shirt felt wet. I look down to see a nice spot of poop on my shirt! Well good morning to me. I'm gagging at this point. (It's 8 o'clock in the morning and my stomach isn't ready for all this).
OK so we make a u-turn from the changing table and head towards the bath tub. You know those cute pjs with the built in feet? The ones you un zip from top to bottom. I'm unzipping and I get to where her tiny lil legs start to realize that both legs are full. Yep you heard me from between the toes up on her tummy.How can something no gross come out of something so cute?"Stinky bottom" she keeps sayin. Boy she as no idea the small explosive that has went off in her pjs. Now on to the bath tub. Fill up the water, put her in. Pour out the water and fill it up again. This routine of washing and refilling the tub so that little particles aren't floating in the water. Yes small particles were floating. She's clean now. We find me a new shirt and I attempt to remove the spot from my new pink Lacoste polo. Good times. So we both are dressed and ready for breakfast. Take the clothes back off to avoid oatmeal on them. Ate, cleaned up and ready for story time. Wait how do you have oatmeal on those clothes? Outfit number 3 your up.
We really are ready this time. Snacks and milk packed and out the door. Shut the door. Put little one in the car seat. Get in the driver seat and there are no keys to start the car. Where are my stinkin keys? The door is shut and locked. Get little one out of the car seat and head over to the neighbors for the spare. Come back in the house and look and look. Little One is marching around behind me saying "where are my stinkin keys?" Thank goodness I said stinkin and not the other words I felt like saying. Never found the keys. Called Hubs and he told me about a hidden one. Two spares and we are finally off to story time.

Here is to a better afternoon! Thank God for nap time (on clean sheets)!

Since the New Year, I have been thinking about what "resolutions" or changes I would like to make in my life.I have loved reading all of your resolutions. I share with everyone in wanting to lose alittle weight and be in better shape but I wanted to take the time to really evaluate my life and come up with some resolutions that would change things alittle deeper than my fat rolls. Hubs and I sat down to talk through and come up with a few "resolutions". We used our church mission statement to focus our ideas. "Love God, Love Each Other and Love the World."

Love God
1. Spend more time in the Word.
2. Maintain a healthy and God centered outlook on money.

Love Each Other
1. Be more creative in how we spend our time together.
2. We came up with more for this section but they are personal and some show our dorkiness which I am not willing to share ;-)

Love Our World
1.Have more God centered conversations with people.
2. Make a conscious effort to impact someones life.

These goals are ones to keep for a lifetime. Probably not things to attain but strive for more of. In summary, we hope we can make this one life we have, extraordinary. I hope to live 2009 on a mission to have some impact on this world we live in.

Surprises!!!

I was exhausted when I finally got home last night. I ran some errands after work and didn't get in till around 8. Lucky for me Hubs took alittle time out of his day to pick me up a bouquet of tulips! My favorite and they are finally in season!! Great surprise!

More surprises from Hubs:

- Southpoint (mall where I shop) is getting an Anthropologie!! I squealed when he told me!!

- Hubs got a promotion at work yesterday!! I squealed again!

This morning before running errands I went out to check the mail.At the bottom of our boxes, there is 2 large compartments that keys stay in unless someone gets a package then, the key gets put in your box. Every time the key is gone I got so excited thinking the key might be in our box and guess what... it was. I opened the compartment to find a large package from one of my most favs...Jenna. I am a kid when it comes to opening gifts. I tore into the package right there in front of the mail box to find alot of little wrapped gifts. Fun fun things and a cute cute clutch!! Thanks Jenna!!

Tomorrow morning I am heading to Whit's house for some brunch and relaxing. I got a great WS Recipe and Entertaining Journal and a super fun "From the Kitchen of" embosser for Christmas and I am taking it over to play with. We are going to watch TV and copy recipes! Sounds like a great Saturday morning to me!!

Crazy Love

For Christmas, Adam and I gave out several copies of the book "Crazy Love" by Francis Chan. If you haven't read it, you should. I plan to re-read it a couple times to grasp all that is in it.

How do people know when you are in love?
What things are a sure sign to you that you have fallen deeply in love?
Does your life show these signs for God?

I am excited to journey through this book with several friends. I'd love to hear from some of you who decide to read it. It's really really short and the vocab makes it an easy read. Don't underestimate the powerful ideas presented in the book. Prepare to get your toes stepped on. There are only a couple books I can honestly say that have changed my life. I count this one.

So I need to get rid of some stuff. I am in organizing mode but have way to much to organize.My closet is full of things I don't wear. Some of them are ugly and some of them I love but can't get my big butt in. I wanted to start selling some stuff on eBay but wasn't sure how difficult or annoying it would be. I know, I know I haven't posted in so long. We are on alittle trip home. I came in on Wednesday to finish getting my name changed. You engaged girls, this process is the pits. I had a great time with my mom and sister. We went shopping at one my favorite little boutiques "More Lace". It has cute stationary, homegoods and other little things. The whole store was 50% off because they were getting a new floor set. We got some great deals! The rest of my stay at home was marked by Wii and catch phrase. We did our usual rule breaking and picked up a sub at our fav sub shop only to smuggle it in to the matinee of "Marley and Me". Cute movie and yes, I cried. I love the house they live in at the end of the movie. Gorgeous yet so homey.

Hubby made it in on Friday. We hadn't been apart overnight since we got married, until this week. I missed him like crazzzzy. We came to his parents house to celebrate Kellie's birthday!! Saturday, mom and I snuck back up to ML to snag some things we should've bought the first time around. After lunch we got together with some of Kellie's friends and headed to Biltmore Village. We shopped around before seeing "Yes Man". Pretty funny, don't care to see it ever again though. Following the movie we had dinner at Flat Rock. She Crab soup, Oscar style Salmon and mashed potatoes left me stuffed.

Today was so relaxing. After church and lunch, I put on the fleece and a scarf and headed out on the deck to read for abit. The lake was BEAUTIFUL. It was so calm and all the houses were reflecting off the water. It was a little chilly but nothing a blanket couldn't take care of. Hubby and his dad took the boat out fishing and I piled up on a chair to take it all in. I lasted about 20 minutes before I drifted off to sleep. When I woke up we went out to see "Sammo" and "Dusty", Hubby's horses. They needed some medicine. I wish I had a camera to capture Dusty's expression. It looked kinda like this...

Now we are piled up watchin the UNC vs. BC game.

Dear All Clad,

I received your All Clad stainless cookware for Christmas only to realize you didn't give me the lid to my saute pan. After talking with the William-Sonoma employee, I was informed not to open the rest of the set until I spoke with someone at All Clad. Sadly All Clad is closed for the holidays and there is no telling when they will re-open. Lucky for me and my husband I already gifted our old pots and pans to someone and we have NO cookware. I am not sure how many weeks I can plan microwaveable meals.

Christmas Recap

Christmas was soooo wonderful.

This was our first Christmas being married and I can't tell you how great it was to have some one to share Christmas with. We were both so worried about seeing everyone on our short trip home but we couldn't have ask for a smoother day. We got to see everyone and spend quality time with all the people we care about. I was scared of how it would be to change my Christmas routine but I was again reminded of how blessed I am to have amazing in-laws. We both were spoiled with all the gifts we received from both families.

We are back in the swing of things and I have been spending the last 2 days trying to find a place for all our new stuff!

So little one and I were at the mall this morning for PB Storytime and while we were walking out I saw one of the girls from The Bachelor. She was a popular one, dark, shorter hair , seems like she could speak another language.haha Pretty but sassy. She had gorgeous clothes and I know she was one of the at home dates. I can't remember which bachelor it was. It's driving me insane. I google imaged and can't seem to find her.It doesn't really matter but you know those things you just can't think of and they drive you crazy? This is one of those times. Help me figure it out. What is her name????? Any idea?

Thinking Outside of Yourself

All day today I have been thinking of what I could do to make a small difference in some one's day. The sermon today was so good (see old post) and made me think about where my thoughts are on a daily basis. I also read Kappa Prep's thoughts on random acts of kindness. I decided to come up with a challenge for myself for everyday this week. I would love for you to take on this small challenge with me. Here's what I've come up with...

Money Monday- Wherever you eat today pay for the persons behind you whether it be at Starbucks for your morning coffee or Panera for your lunch, pick up their tab. This works best in drive thrus but can be done anywhere.This random act of kindness will make someones day.

Talking Tuesday- Be intentional about telling someone you are thankful for them or give someone a compliment. We can do so much to brighten someones day by just a few words.

Wild Card Wednesday- just do something nice. It might be as small as letting someone go in front of you in a line or as big as picking up that angel off the angel tree you have been debating about buying for.You decide what to do.

Thankful Thursday- make a list of ten things you are thankful for in these hard economic times and post it on your blog.

Friday Fun and Friends- Do something for someone close to you. It is so fun to take a friend for a manicure or buy them their favorite truffles simply to be nice.

You are more than welcome to post this on your blog to share with others.Don't do this to make you feel good about yourself but rather because you are so blessed your life should overflow kindess. My friend Meg got me a subscription to Cooking Light last year and I have loved it. We tried a new recipe from this month's magazine tonight. Twist on Song Sunday

So I normally post a song we sung at church today but seeing how we were so late, we missed the singing and I can't. After taking 3 pages of notes I have decided to share with you some of those instead. Today's sermon was one of those "check yourself" kinda sermons so hang on and prepare to get your toes stepped on, as I did.

Philippians 3

First Paul is presenting his "resume". He tells us all his racial qualifications. From the tribe he was part of to the fact he is flawless and blameless. Then in verse 8 he says "I count them as rubbish" Our pastor explained that rubbish is an understatement of the word and it's more like "crap or poop" in it's truest form. He explains that true righteousness is only through faith in Christ.
The basis of the whole sermon: What do you find your righteousness or identity in?
Rather: What do you do to be accepted?

I know we all hear all the time on Oprah or whatever about people trying to "find themselves". It's not until we realize we need something outside our self that we are ok with our identity.

Most profound thing I learned today:

It is not your sin that keeps you from Christ it is your self- righteousness.

This is something to consider with all aspects of your life. Just to be quite honest, when we obtain that new __________fill in the blank (handbag, dress, pair of designer shoes) does it give you some since of accomplishment or make you feel that you are now "accepted". If something makes you return to your "resume of accomplishments" then it is keeping you from God. Tough to swallow huh?We don't know the wickedness of our own heart. Now more than ever people are understanding that their previous ways of satisfaction aren't working. People are losing jobs and our economy is failing. That job we thought gave us such stature is gone and we don't know who we are. The reason for this is because we don't find our identity in Christ. We need to understand that we can't find our happiness in stuff or jobs or worldly acceptance because it is not promising. It can be riped out from under you in a second. Is your value in Christ or do you allow other things to bring you supreme pleasure? If any of this is making your "check engine light" come on, then don't just turn the light off, fix the problem.Make war against all your attainments and find your righteousness in God. Don't allow the things of this world to be your identity.Consider your resume as crap and be righteous only because He gave you His resume.

wow I just went on and on. some notes and then some of my own thoughts. I hope this will be helpful or a reminder for us to stay in check with what we are allowing to fill our hearts or blogs. haha. I need to hear this about once a week. Let me know your thoughts.

why are people already acting stressed and grouchy. I went to Walmart today ( I really hate this place) but we needed to get some pansies for me to plant and they had them on sale. It was nuts. I had to return a wedding gift (yeah still doing that) so I had to go to customer service. There was a long line and everyone looked like they were mad at the world. The lady that rang us up maybe said two words but the lady working beside her said enough for everybody. She was on a power trip yelling at this guy over God only knows what. I wanted to slap her for the guy. Anyway, I love love love Christmas time but people need to chill out.
